Women…sometimes I don’t GET us.
This week my eldest started school and I’ve absorbed enough messages about glam school run outfit choices and bento box lunch suggestions to consider setting up a compound and homeschooling. (Just like the Badass Bhagwan I know I could be).
I’ve never ‘understood’ competitive mothers but I’ve been on the receiving end a bit recently and it’s doing my head in.
I’ve seen it in mothers’ groups and it carries right on through. Usually you can work out who they are and steer well clear (hallmarks = rabid stare, silver charms of their kids’ fingerprints around their necks). However, sometimes you have no choice and you just have to limit your exposure.
Deadset…ladies…can we just do each other a favour? Stop comparing our kids and parenting styles. Sure we have kids in common but can we talk about some other stuff please? Like books or movies or music or ANYTHING BUT OUR FREAKING KIDS.
Things I don’t care about:
- allergies
- poo
- sleeping patterns
- planning Easter holidays (haven’t we just finished holidays?)
- your husband travelling overseas for work (if YOU’RE going overseas I WANT TO KNOW ALL ABOUT IT)
- whether my child has been set homework yet
- the seven seater you’ve just bought
And here’s a question I’m hoping someone can answer: WHY do some women feel the need to compare?
