Monogamy - Adam Phillips
I’m reading this book of aphorisms by Adam Phillips.  It’s VERY interesting…and I think you can apply some of his observations to how we ‘curate’ ourselves across social networks. We work hard to keep certain versions of ourselves in other people’s mind; and of course, the less appealing ones out of their minds.  And yet everyone we meet invents us, whether we...

Hepcat Radio Podcast - Gifted & Blessed →
Nice little vox pop (from the 60’s?) at the beginning of this mixtape. “Do you like electronic music?” Pulsating, dreamy jams. Gifted & Blessed site here.

On Kissing, Tickling and Being Bored
Reading a few books by Adam Phillips at the moment… Psychoanalysis is a story - and a way of telling stories - that makes some people feel better…Psychoanalsysis - as a form of conversation - is worth having only if it makes our lives more interesting, or funnier, or sadder, or more tormented or whatever it is about ourselves that we value and want to promote; and especially if it...

I was that woman
With the five year old who managed to wedge his sandalled foot under the footrest of his airplane seat. Do I break his foot off to get him out a la 127 Hours? How can I extricate him from this situation when I have managed to wedge my own arse into this impossibly small, profit to the max, ram them in, seat arrangement? I can’t even reach his foot…I too am stuck.  Stuck with a small...

Week 2 - menu plan
Week 2 of my return to work and the husband has been away in Brisbane for the week, saving Anna Bligh from herself. My kids’ dinner this evening: sausage rolls. My dinner: edamame, chips and a Carlton Draught. Mad props: to all the single parents who do this week in, week out. You do good work. I don’t feel like I’m doing good work (well, not at home anyway). ...

Social Media Policies
So I’ve started a new job and I have been reading some information/guidance on the use of social media. Just a heads up: my tumblr and my twitter are about to become quite vanilla. I might set up some different accounts…I’ll let you know if I do.

catching up with (un)real people
Over the last few days I’ve made an effort to call/see people I haven’t talked with for ages. my bestie from school is in Syd-a-ney who had to make the decision to put her cat, Mrs Dribbles, down (gutted). another girlfriend is going through the most protracted break up known to (wo)man and so tends to hideout rather than ‘come out’ another is a very busy lady who spends...

I have brain strain
You know when you’re trying to work out who your new buddies at work will be?  I’m doing that. Who is wise. Who is funny. Who gives good cake. Who knows where the best coffee is. That’s my criteria.

It's the small things
My 5 year old boy had a full day with the babysitter yesterday while I was at work.  I arranged for them to go to what our family calls a ‘special’ eg: a ticketed event (maybe involving sandcastles, maybe in Frankston). When I got home I asked him what his ‘best bit of the day’ was. “Driving through the carwash!”

Cognitive Surplus - Clay Shirky
Yeah, so I finally finished reading this…I’d recommend it (even if it is old…it’s a good reminder text…for how you could be using your time). I’m a shocker for time wasting and procrastination…mostly because I like things to be ‘just so’.  This book was a good motivator in terms of collaboration and how tech can make the world a better place...

I am very quietly freaking out
Because I start my new job tomorrow. This coincides with a big public policy consulting job my husband is working on in Brisvegas and I’m worried it’s all going to fall in a heap….while I try to co-ordinate logistics/child minding arrangements there are going to be many nights when the smalls eat beans because I cannot be fagged cooking anything else. I need a freaking wife. ...

Instagram n keeping it real
Had a comment on my instagram feed today to the effect: “you are always in beautiful places = your life is awesome” This is interesting. Heads up: I only post what I think is beautiful, interesting or amusing. I find cakes, Lego and sunsets get the most love (anecdotally). My feed is a construct. I edit it. I don’t want you to see my ice addict neighbours, their staffies...

Cheers m'dears
Y’know when you stumble across a little piece of internet gold and you are just like ‘thank Christ’? Jamie Groovement is one of those people.  A hip hop DJ and promoter based in Mancheseter, Jamie’s podcasts are very funny….lots of shout outs and it sounds like he has a funny time with his guests.  More info here. I can’t even remember how I came across the...
